If you prefer to find your own manufacturers, I recommend paying close attention to the following criteria:
Product Quality: Ensure the products are of high quality. Negative reviews will cause your sales to plummet and, in extreme cases, can even lead to your shop being shut down.
Daily Production and Shipping Capacity: Customers expect fast delivery. If you keep them waiting too long, negative feedback will start rolling in. Ideally, products should ship the very next day after an order is placed, and they must be manufactured within 3 days at the latest. Faster shipping translates to higher customer satisfaction and more sales.
Scalability for Peak Periods: Your manufacturer must not have capacity issues when orders spike. For personalized products, demand can increase 10 to 20 times during special occasions. Specifically, in November and December (the Christmas season), you might see 10 times more sales than in a normal month. Many shops struggle to fulfill orders during this time, which can lead to permanent closure.
Capacity for Innovation: To significantly increase your sales, you need to follow trends on Amazon and Etsy closely and have your manufacturer produce successful new models. If your manufacturer is closed to innovation, you will miss out on major opportunities.
Honesty and Integrity: Honesty is the most critical factor in business. Never work with a manufacturer that tries to mislead you or your customers. They might cut corners on materials to lower costs, resulting in unhappy customers. As I mentioned in my story in the first section, we suffered significant losses because our first manufacturer sent products that were different from what was shown in the photos.
Robust Production and Order Management Systems: As orders increase, manual management becomes impossible. If you are sending orders via WhatsApp, things will eventually get messy.
